Views of Moroccan University Teachers on Plant Taxonomy and Its Teaching and Learning Challenges

Plant taxonomy includes the identification, description, and classification of plants at level species or other taxa. This study aims to analyze views university teachers on plant its teaching, causes shortage taxonomists, challenges encountered by students in learning taxonomy. University Morocco (n = 24) responded a survey consisting fixed open-ended questions. The data was analyzed inductive deductive content analysis. results showed that all considered taxonomist as scientist dynamic highly scientific, descriptive discipline. They stated community is crisis because taxonomists decrease quality training provided university. biggest were prevalence traditional teacher-centered methods, inadequacy time didactic resources spent Latin nomenclature. difficulties associated with concept evolution diversity classifications also mentioned. angiosperm group most difficult for understand. Furthermore, this research shows financial, human, institutional, pedagogical, teaching are insufficient do not allow use methods supporting learning. How taught important, when it difficult, can lead reluctance be one reasons decline Morocco. Consequently, issue negatively affect preservation conservation local flora.
